Oberursel: Dispute over one's own license plate - does the O come?
Oberursel: Dispute over one's own license plate - does the O come?
Oberursel, Deutschland - An exciting topic hovers over Oberursel: a separate license plate! The city with its 47,000 inhabitants could soon have the opportunity to proudly carry "O", "OU" or even "Obu" on its license plates. While other municipalities are already fighting for their own license plates, the question arises: is Oberursel ready for this step?
The discussion about a new license plate is fueled by the efforts of other cities. Maintal, with only 40,000 inhabitants, has already taken the first step and checks the opportunity to get their own license plate from 20,000 inhabitants. The identity -creating character of such a license plate is strongly emphasized in the city, and it could also focus on Oberursel. But could the city, which has never been called "O", actually show up with such a distinctive sign?
The competition does not sleep
The question of the license plate is also reinforced by the omni presence of "HG" for Bad Homburg. While Usingen is already dancing out of the series with "Usi", Oberursel could stand out from the competition with his own license plate. A "O" would not only catapult the city into the ranks of the individual letter metropolises, but also a certain "Oh!" trigger that underlines the importance of Oberursel. Mayor Antje Runge is open to the idea, while Ulfert Hahn, President of the Fastnachtsverein, "Obu" considered more sensible.
Not everyone is convinced. Michael Reuter, ex-focus-o. boss, warns of confusion with zero. "If you have nothing else to profil yourself, it could be counterproductive," he says. So the debate about the license plate is in full swing, and the Oberurseler are faced with the question: Are you ready to define yourself with a new sign?
