K+S discovers huge salt deposits: Future for 4,500 jobs secured!
A sensational find for the salt and fertilizer manufacturer K+S! In East Hesse, huge raw salt deposits were discovered, which the company could supply with valuable “white gold” for over 40 years. This discovery is not only an economic triumph, but also a reason to be happy for the approximately 4,500 employees in the region who can hope for safe jobs up to at least 2060
The salt reserves were detected by seismic measurements in the planned mining area "Südwestfeld Hattorf-Wintershall". Trucks specially equipped drained through a total of 155 kilometers for two weeks and broadcast sound waves up to 1,000 meters deep into the ground. The results are clear: K+S can fall back on a rich source that will secure business for decades. But until the breakdown actually begins, further examinations and permits have to be made.
where exactly is the treasure?
The new salt deposits are located south of the Eisatal, below the municipalities of Eiterfeld, Haunetal, Burghaun and Hünfeld. The mining area thus continues to the south towards Fulda, which drives the company's expansion. Around 20 million tons of raw salt are currently being funded annually, from which fertilizers are produced, among other things. The area that is now to be developed extends over 100 square kilometers.
Not everything is sunshine! While K+S celebrates, environmentalists from the federal government are watching developments with eyes. The question of disposal remains a hot topic, because about 70 percent of the funded material cannot be used and form the well -known overburdened slopes in the region. The future of Monte Kali at the Neuhof location ensures ongoing disputes and new solutions. It remains to be seen whether a new shaft system will be created in the new mining area.
