Erna Bertermann celebrates 100 years: a life full of adventure and love!

Erna Bertermann celebrates her impressive 100th birthday on October 2, 2024. The mother of the former mayor of Fulda, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Dippel enjoys this special day with her family. "I'm fine. I am so grateful," says the sprightly lady when she is visited by a reporter from East Hesse | News. A little later she plans to spend a cozy evening in the "Black Hahn" on a glass of Hochstift Pils. "It keeps fit and young," she adds with a smile.

born in Niederlistingen, a small town in Northern Hesse, Erna grew up at a time when mobility was often associated with hard work. After training as a seller, she cycled 18 kilometers to work in Warburg every day. "That kept fit," she realizes in retrospect about the many years of her hardworking work.

life full of challenges

Life was not always easy for the jubilee. After her wedding, she was forced to cope with her two sons alone, Wolfgang and Otto, when her husband died much too early. The income came mainly from agricultural work and a small widow's pension, and Erna often had to fight hard to ensure a living. "Sometimes it was enough for everyday life," she says.

Faith was always a source of confidence for Erna. Up to the age of 94 she lived in the house of her in -laws in Oberlistingen, not far from the Evangelical Church. "Faith always gives me confidence and trust," she explains. After a broken femoral neck, her son Wolfgang decided to bring her to Fulda, where she now lives in Nonnengasse.

Thanks to the support of the Caritas Association and the Association "Live together - Learning together", Erna can lead an appealing life despite its restricted mobility. "A big thank you to the helpers who reliably and with love do their caring, caring work," she says gratefully and emphasizes the importance of this support.

Erna Bertermann has five grandchildren and three great -grandchildren who enrich their lives, and the occasional excursions to the ice cream parlor or on the university area are welcome changes for them. "As long as possible," she surprises with her positive attitude. The family and friends celebrated this important day with her. A small occasion for a big party!
