Village in turmoil: Citizens protest against asylum plans in Dietramszell!
in Dietramszell, a small village with 280 inhabitants in Upper Bavaria, a protest against the planned asylum accommodation took place on January 9, 2025. Around 100 citizens took part in the demonstration, which was less than in a first campaign, in which around 180 participants were counted. The event was organized by Walter Köster, the chairman of the "Bairawies active!" Association. The demonstrators called for the prevention of the planned “container village”, which is supposed to offer space for 128 refugees.
A main concern of the protesters is the concern for the lack of infrastructure in the village, since there is neither a doctor's office, pharmacy, bakery, supermarket, soccer field nor a children's playground. The public transport connection is ensured by an X-BUS that drives to Bad Tölz or Geretsried every 20 minutes. Another concern is the overwhelming of the small village due to the high number of refugees. The symbolism of the demonstration included lanterns and colorful ligaments where slogans such as "somewhere in nowhere" and "How is that supposed to work?" were to be read.
concerns of the municipal administration and the citizens
The municipal council Thomas Bachmeier also expressed concerns about the integration of the refugees. The municipality's building committee has already rejected the application for the planned project, which feeds the fear that the district office may be will overring the will of the villagers. The event ended with the fact that the participants formed a big question mark on a meadow. A drone filmed this campaign, which is to be broadcast in an ARD documentary entitled "What moves Germany" on February 17, 2025.
A similar problem can also be observed in Hesse, where the accommodation of refugee conflicts in the communities causes. The hessenschau.de reports that right-wing extremists use these conflicts to make mood against refugee accommodation. This can be seen, for example, in Solms, where about 15 demonstrators were present in a protest. The mayor Frank Inderthal (SPD) pointed out the obligation to give the homemade. In various communities, including Weinbach and Fürfurt, there is resistance to planned container accommodation, whereby citizens express several concerns about a possible loss of value of their real estate and the lack of infrastructure.
