Red alarm level: African swine fever threatens the Rhein-Neckar district!

The African swine plague (ASP) is back and the alarm bells ring in the Rhein-Neckar district! After the shocking find of five wild boars, which were positively tested for the ASP virus, the risk of introducing the region has risen again. These wild boars were discovered south of the electric fence on the federal road (B) 47 near Bürstadt, just a stone's throw away from the borders of the Rhein-Neckar district. The region is in turmoil, because the previous assumptions about the safety of the fence are now waste!

The responsible department, Doreen kiss, urges: "These new positive cases in southern Hesse show that animal disease in our region is far from being contained." Although the ASP is harmless for humans and pets, it has a devastating impact on agriculture. Massive financial losses when selling pig and wild boar meat are to be feared, and those affected in agriculture are under enormous pressure. The restriction of agricultural activities in the affected blocking zones is already noticeable, and the hunters can no longer do their work unhindered.

measures and regulations must be observed

The population is urgently asked to follow the strict regulations in the restricted zones. Doreen Kuss recalls that the virus is not only transmitted directly by game or domestic pigs, but also indirectly via contaminated objects. "Everyone can help prevent the spread of animal disease," she emphasizes. Walks off the paths or playing with dogs without a leash are currently taboo to stop the spread of the ASP.

The measures remain in force until the beginning of 2025, and depending on the situation, they could be tightened or loosened. "We have to maintain the restricted zones for at least 12 months," explains Kuss. The population is called to act in solidarity, because only together can the spread of the ASP be prevented. If you need more information about the regulations and locking zones, you will find everything on the official website of the Rhein-Neckar district.
