Würzburg's university says goodbye to new code for freedom of science!
The Julius Maximilians University Würzburg (JMU) has taken a pioneering step in freedom of science! The Senate has passed the code "Science - Freedom and Responsibility", which clearly defines the principles and limits of scientific freedom at the university. This new code is not just a document, but a strong commitment to the independence of research, which the JMU puts in the series of progressive educational institutions.
In an intensive process that lasted over five months, a working group of 15 members, led by law professor Markus Ludwigs, developed this code. The group consisted of various university status groups and was based on the Hamburg code to create a tailor -made guide for the JMU. "The text of the code was created in a discursive process," says Ludwigs, who highlights the importance of the discussion in the central committees of the university.
a milestone for research
The code is not just a document, but a sign of self -assurance for JMU when it comes to freedom of science. "His success will depend on whether and how the researchers at the JMU fill the code with life in their everyday scientific life," explains Ludwigs. JMU President Paul Pauli emphasizes the importance of freedom of science as the basis for successful scientific work and is pleased with the introduction of the code. "This shows how high we appreciate this legal property at the JMU," said Pauli. Vice President Caroline Kisker also praises the committed cooperation in the working group and emphasizes the importance of communication about the content of the code.
