Volleyball fever in Neustrelitz: Strelitzhalle celebrates grandiose return!
Neustrelitz, Deutschland - On January 13, 2025, the men of the Volleyball second division club PSV Neustrelitz return to the freshly renovated Strelitzhalle. This will be an important moment for the club, since it is the first game since the hall was closed due to water damage in the summer of 2022. The Strelitzhalle developed into an important volleyball temple in 2020 after the rise of PSV Neustrelitz.
The renovation that became necessary after a heavy rain event caused considerable water damage in August 2022 took 28 months. The total renovation costs amount to around two million euros. Some of these were supported by promoting the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania of 500,000 euros. During the closure, the association had to switch to the sports hall of the federal police in Neustrelitz, which caused revenue losses of around 20,000 euros per season.
reopening of the Strelitzhalle
The Strelitzhalle is officially reopened on January 11, 2025. From January 20, the hall will again be available for regular club and school sports. However, a short closure period from February 3 to 13, 2025 has already been announced, while the hall lighting is renewed.
The renovation work included a complete renewal of the drainage and sewer system as well as the outdoor facilities. The interior design began in April 2024, with the concrete milling work, the renewal of the floor sleeves and the installation of new sanitary facilities had to be completed. Particular attention was paid to the electrical installation, which was expanded by a modern data network, and the conversion of the lighting system to LED, which is to take place during the winter holidays. Despite initial delays, the work on the outdoor facilities was completed in September 2024.
The PSV Neustrelitz is optimistic and hopes for a high number of spectators in the first game in the renovated hall, which takes place against ETV Hamburg. The city of Neustrelitz expresses its thanks to the clubs, the Carolinum high school as well as to the district and the city council for their patience and support during the long closing time.
The measures taken by the renovation also include the assignment of a hydrogeological report for risk limit as well as the elimination of problems in the rain and roof drainage system that were found during the investigations.
