IT breakdown at German airports: Travelers have to wait a long time!
Düsseldorf, Deutschland - A technical mishap has caused considerable vertebrae at several German airports. On Friday there were IT disorders in the terminals from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, which mainly affected the entry from states outside the Schengen area and exit to such countries. The cause lies in an information system from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) that had problems in the area of IT network hardware. Reports of a possible hacker attack were rejected by the Interior Ministry, such as krone.at confirmed.
The effects were immediately noticeable: Passengers had to be handled by the controls, which led to long waiting times and chaotic conditions. At a particularly critical moment, around 450 travelers were on their handling in the terminal while machines could not start. The airports were not available until around 6 p.m. The disorders are largely remedied until Saturday, but BKA experts expect a few days before everything works completely again. "The BKA is working with its partner authorities with high pressure to restore control and to find the causes," said a spokesman for the BKA, such as schwaebische.de reported.
Fortunately, the land boundaries remained unaffected by the disorders, and there were no significant impairments when entering the points. But the events illustrate how susceptible to everyday IT systems in critical infrastructure areas are and how quickly inconvenience can arise for travelers when problems occur.Details | |
