Refurbishment of the Decatur Bridge: Citizens marvel at construction progress in Seevetal!

Seevetal. The extensive renovation work on the Decatur Bridge over the Maschen scouring station attracts great public interest. Working intensively on the bridge since the beginning of February, and recently, citizens had the opportunity to experience the progress of the construction work up close. The demand was so high that the available places for the tour were fully booked within a very short time. Another inspection is planned for spring 2025.

The event attracted around fifty interested people who gathered on the bridge to learn more about the technical details of the renovation by Andreas Hein, the project manager of the municipality of Seevetal, and Lucas Wehrmann, the construction manager of the Echterhoff company. Both led the group through the construction site and clearly explained what the work contained, such as the statistical upgrading of the abutment and the use of hybrid cap elements.

The peculiarity of the Decatur Bridge

Andreas Hein emphasized the uniqueness of the Decatur bridge with the words: "The Decatur-Bridge is a world unique. It is the longest bridge over a marshalling station, and mesh is also Europe's largest marshalling yard. There is no such combination anywhere else in the world." These special features make the renovation work not only a local, but also an international matter.

also the mayor of Seevetal, Emily Weede, was positive about the course of the project and the progress, which has been recognizable since a previous tour in August. She emphasized the regular checks of all bridges in the local government and said: "We keep our bridges in mind - now and in the future." This underlines the commitment of the municipality to continuously monitor and maintain the infrastructure.

The construction work on the Decatur Bridge depends on the weather and should also be continued in winter as long as it allows the conditions. Further hybrid cap elements are currently being installed and worked on the static thrust reinforcement. For everyone who missed a tour to visit the work, in spring 2025 there is again the opportunity to take a look at progress. In addition, photos and information about the construction site on the website of the municipality of Seevetal will soon be provided to keep the public up to date.
