Tauben luxury in Barmbek: New 50,000-euro stroke for the rats of the air!
Tauben luxury in Barmbek: New 50,000-euro stroke for the rats of the air!
In a spectacular step to combat the pigeon problem in Hamburg, the district office Nord opened a new pigeon strike on Wednesday - and that for a whopping 50,000 euros! This inconspicuous, blue container is supposed to offer the "rats of the air" a new home and keep the annoying birds away from the streets. Many Hamburgers are annoyed by the feathered pests who have also spread in Barmbek.
The new pigeon strike, strategically placed on the corner of Hufnerstraße/Rübenkamp, is referred to as "Taubenloft" and is intended to offer the pigeons a safe nesting and feeding place. In order to attract the wild pigeons, three dozen animal welfare pigeons have already been settled. With the help of pipes and food, the curiosity of the birds was awakened. The hatch was opened at the end of October, and the first pigeons are already interested in their new home.
Goal: Reduce pigeon population
The district office has big plans: In the long term, the pigeon population is to be drastically reduced by targeted egg sampling in this container. An important aspect is that the residents do not feed the birds and gently drive them away when they try to settle down on balconies. The city of Hamburg relies on this innovative solution to finally get the pigeon problem under control!
