Hamburg's first Taubenloft: A new home for city pigeons!
A blue container, inconspicuous and yet full of life, is now in Hamburg's Barmbek - the city's first supervised deaf strike! Right next to the tracks of the train station, surrounded by a meadow, this converted sea container offers a new home for the city pigeons. He will be officially inaugurated on Thursday, and the project that has been running for two years is scientifically accompanied by the Hanover veterinary school.
The "Taubenloft" extends over 14 square meters and houses around 100 nest cells and 75 seat boards. The care is carried out by the Hamburg swan system, which should regulate the pigeon population and promote the health of the animals. Alexander Fricke from the district office explains: "We want to find a solution that benefits both animals and residents." 35 pigeons from animal welfare have already found a new home here to attract the local pigeons as decoys. The container's hat was opened at the end of October and the first visitors have already arrived.
feed undesirable!
An appeal to the passers -by: Don't feed the pigeons! Simone Dornia from the Barmbeker Greens emphasizes that the only way to learn the animals to recognize the pigeon stroke as a source of feed and safe retreat. Animal rights activists like Martina Born from the Hamburg city pigeon association point out that city pigeons are actually pets that are dependent on humans. The so -called Augsburg model, which is also used in Hamburg, provides to replace the eggs laid by the pigeons with dummies to control the increase.
Similar projects are also available in other cities in the north. In Bremen, a pigeon house was built on the roof of a parking garage, and a pigeon strike is to be created in Vegesack as part of the redesign of the station forecourt. The city of Hanover has already looked after six pigeon strokes, while the state of Lower Saxony promotes the construction of further pigeon strikes. A step in the right direction for the city pigeons and a sign of more animal welfare in urban rooms!
