Hamburg is looking for 30,000 election helpers: This is how you can participate!

Hamburg is faced with a huge challenge: For the upcoming elections, the city urgently is looking for volunteers! The Bundestag election will take place on February 23, 2025 and the election to the Hamburg Citizenship on March 2, 2025. Alexander Fricke, press spokesman for the Hamburg-Nord district, emphasizes: "We are looking for 15,000 election helpers", which means a total of 30,000 helpers who are supposed to ensure a smooth process.

But who can apply? For the federal election, applicants must be at least 18 years old on election day, have German citizenship and have been living in Germany for at least three months. 16-year-olds can also report to the citizens' choice as long as they live in Hamburg. The election helpers take on important tasks in the polling stations: they distribute ballot papers, monitor the voting and count the voices. An exciting job that not only brings responsibility, but also an allowance!

Financial incentives for election workers

The election workers can look forward to compensation: on the election Sunday between 35 and 65 euros, and on Monday, the counting day, there are between 100 and 120 euros, depending on the position on the election board. However, Fricke warns: "The double choice is a huge challenge", especially because of the many overlapping deadlines. The district offices also offer training courses for the electoral board management to ensure that everything is going smoothly.
