City of Hamburg uses the right of first refusal: Billstrasse remains industrial!
Billstraße, 20539 Hamburg, Deutschland - Hamburg takes action! The city has activated its right of first refusal for land on Billstrasse after negotiations with potential buyers failed. The aim was to find buyers who adhere to the development plan and the ambitious "target picture Billstrasse 2030". But the city did not give up and secured the areas by decision. But the sellers pulled the withdrawal and used their legal right of withdrawal, which means that the property now stays back in the hands of the original owner.
Finance Senator Dr. Andreas Dressel emphasizes the importance of the right of first refusal: "It works preventively and can prevent speculative sales. We want to create space for industrial use and prevent undesirable developments." The city plans to continue their right of first refusal in the future to promote industrial development in Billstrasse.
city relies on industrial use
Ralf Neubauer, district manager of Hamburg-Mitte, explains: "The right of first refusal helps us to enforce the intended industrial uses. Lands are only given to buyers who are willing to locate an industrial operation." The city also supports owners who are striving for an industrial area. "We have staying power and will continue the composite operations to achieve permanent changes," continued Neubauer.
