Maximum meeting room: Altona starts test phase for Urban Alcove!

The second test phase of the exciting project "Urban Alcove" now begins in Altona! After a successful start at Ottenser Marktplatz, where the innovative city furniture brought people together during the summer, Altona will continue in the middle of autumn. Here the concept should be examined again in order to collect valuable knowledge and further improve the space for encounters and communication.

The district office Altona emphasizes how positive the feedback from the first phase was. The new seating and the loving greening were celebrated by the citizens. They not only offer a meeting point, they also create a green oasis in the middle of the city, which acts as a neighborly link. The idea behind "Urban Alcove" is clear: better protection against the effects of climate change and at the same time an inviting location for everyone!

research and development in Altona

The Hamburg architect Heidi Fletcher is the creative force behind this concept! As part of a research project, the functionality of the Urban Alcove is tested at various locations. The focus is not only on the external conditions, but also the care carp and the everyday experiences of users. Due to the sponsorships at the locations, the neighborhood is actively involved in the design and care. A real joint project!

The entire project is financed by the Federal Ministry of Living, Urban Development and Building as part of the "Adaptation of urban rooms to climate change" programs over the years 2023 to 2024. A future -oriented project shows how urban development can work in times of climate change!
