Hamburg's winter service ready to go: 17,000 tons of salt for the frosty days!

Hamburg, Deutschland - Autumnal preparations for Winter! While the leaves are still falling, Hamburg city cleaning has their hands full to be ready for the coming winter. Workers have been in the starting blocks since mid -October and have prepared for the use in intensive training and trials. The winter service operations center is on alert until mid-April and always has an eye on the weather. If the onset of winter is signed, a call for the emergency services will be issued immediately!

massive salt reserves for icy times

The city is excellently equipped when winter becomes uncomfortable. Impressive 10,000 tons of road salt are stored in the central Salzhalle of Hamburg! Together with other halls and silos, a total of 17,000 tons are confirmed in warehouse, such as the spokesman for the city cleaning, Johann Gerner-Beuerle. But that's not all! The last winter brought a new innovation: the use of liquid soles - an environmentally friendly solution that stays on the streets around the clock and at the same time needs less salt!

important responsibilities for residents

Despite the comprehensive preparations for city cleaning, Hamburg citizens also have to become active themselves. On sidewalks, residents are required to remove snow and ice on their own. Gries are used on the bike paths and on sidewalks without residents. This is done for environmental reasons, because the use of salt is strictly prohibited there. In addition, winter service takes care of the snow and ice freedom at bus stops so that everyone is safe.
