Hamburg's election date remains stable despite Scholz!
Hamburg, Deutschland - Hamburg is faced with a crucial choice! Despite the political turbulence in Berlin, triggered by the dismissal of finance minister Christian Lindner (FDP) and the efforts of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to new elections at the end of March, the appointment for the Hamburg election on March 2, 2025 remains firmly anchored in the calendar. State election manager Oliver Rudolf has made it clear that this date is out of the question and that the Hamburg citizens can prepare for the election.
The Hamburg constitution only allowed a certain period of time for the election of citizens: between December 18 of this year and March 18 next year. The latest possible election day would be March 16, 2025, which, however, falls into the Hamburg school holidays. This means that the voters in the Hanseatic city may have to go to the urns twice if there are new elections in the Bundestag.
political uncertainty in Berlin
Scholz 'announcement to ask the question of trust in the Bundestag could significantly change the political landscape in Germany. While the CDU calls for an earlier new election, it remains unclear whether this will have an impact on the Hamburg election date. Rudolf was cautious and emphasized that, out of respect for the constitution, he does not want to make any speculation about possible election days. Hamburg is the only federal state that will choose a new state parliament in the coming year, which makes the situation more exciting.
