Hamburg becomes smart: Autonomous collecting taxis start 2025!

The future of local public transport is picking up speed! Moia, the innovative mobility service provider from Hamburg, announces that it will test autonomous collecting taxis in the Hanseatic city in mid -2025. The self -driving Volkswagen ID Buzz AD will be used and conquer the streets of Hamburg. With initially 25 vehicles, a test operation is started under real conditions, in which passengers can share their trips in a so-called ridepooling system.

A look at the technology

Christian Senger, head of Volkswagen Admt, described autonomous driving as "jump into the absolute future". The ID Buzz AD is equipped with the latest technology: 13 cameras, nine lidare and five radars capture the surroundings in real time. Moia boss Sascha Meyer sees these vehicles a real "gamuchanger" for mobility. The first test drives without passengers started in Munich in 2021 and were continued in Hamburg in 2023, always with a security driver on board who can intervene in an emergency.

by the end of 2026, the offer in Hamburg should then go into regular operation. Moia, active in Hanover since 2018 and since 2019 in Hamburg, has already promoted over eleven million passengers and employs around 900 drivers in the Hanseatic city. The anticipation for the new, autonomously driving shuttles is great - the future of traffic has started!
