Naturalization is booming in Hamburg: Records of applications within 100 days!

Recently Hamburg has recorded a significant increase in naturalization applications. The reason for this is the newly introduced naturalization right that shortens the deadlines for naturalization. Almost 6,000 applications have been received since June 27, 2024, which corresponds to a doubling compared to the same period last year, as a spokesman for the Migration Office confirmed.

The upward development in naturalization applications can be seen in the context of a longer -term trend. 6,268 applications were made in Hamburg throughout 2020. By mid -September 2024, this number was already 13,658 applications. The actual number of naturalizations has also increased, from 4,502 in 2020 to 7,537 in 2023, while 6,281 naturalizations were already carried out this year until mid -September. The main origin of origin are Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey.

digital renewal and improved procedures

The Office for Migration responded to the increased demand by using additional staff and digitizing essential parts of the application process. Applicants in Hamburg now have the option of submitting your application online and submitting all the necessary documents electronically. This digital transformation not only makes the procedure faster, but also more user -friendly.

A practical tool is the digital quick check, which enables applicants to check whether they meet all requirements for naturalization. According to the spokesman for the office, the goal is that the applicant ideally only have to come to the office personally, namely to collect their naturalization certificate.

Another important aspect of the new nationality law concerns the deadlines for naturalization itself. Foreigners who live in Germany and are well integrated can acquire German citizenship after just five years, instead of the eight years that have been valid so far. In exceptional cases, naturalization is even possible after three years. Under certain conditions, this also applies to guest and contract workers who only have to prove their oral knowledge in everyday life.

A remarkable point is that the applicants no longer have to give up their previous nationality, which is accommodating to many people. This represents a significant relief and an incentive for integration. The naturalization tests were also abolished for these groups, which further simplifies the process.

However, there are also stricter requirements for the confession of the values of the free democratic basic order. Anyone who strives for German citizenship must be clearly committed to the values of a democratic society. Among other things, this includes respect for the dignity and equality of all people. Actions that are motivated anti -Semitic, racist or from inhuman motifs in contradiction to the human remedy of the Basic Law, as was clarified by the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

These developments in Hamburg show how the city reacts to the increased need for naturalizations and at the same time takes new digital paths to facilitate the process to the applicants. The increase in applications and naturalizations illustrates the growing interest in German citizenship and the ongoing change in integration policy.
