A7 and Elbe tunnel: Finally free after weeks of blocking!

Hamburg, Deutschland - After a full closure of around 30 hours, the A7 and the Elbe tunnel in Hamburg have been released for traffic this morning. The closure began late Friday evening between the Hamburg -Stellingen and home field junctions and was lifted around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, as the traffic control center announced. The reason for the measure was extensive construction work on the highway, which focused on the expansion on eight traces. This included the lifting of several new traffic signs as well as minor renovation work along the route, reported ndr.de .

The traffic situation in downtown Hamburg was tense during the closure because many drivers had to switch to alternative routes. The result was a partly overcrowded city center on Saturday. This full closure is the sixth this year, which shows that the construction work is comprehensive and time -consuming. Autobahn GmbH has not yet made any forecasts for possible further closures in 2025, but made it clear that the work south of the Elbe tunnel should be completed by early 2027. At the same time, the Altona noise protection tunnel north of the Elbe will probably go into operation with three lanes in both directions at the end of 2028, while four tracks per direction are planned by the end of 2029, such as n-tv.de
