Ford Cologne: Production of e-cars stopped due to weak demand!
Köln-Niehl, Deutschland - In Cologne-Niehl, the production of e-cars at Ford is still! From the coming week, production will rest for a week, followed by another week. A total of three production weeks fail, and this has a massive impact on the workforce. The electric cars for the European market are manufactured here, including the new Explorer and the Capri that have been running off the assembly line since July and September.
The numbers speak a clear language: 630 vehicles were produced in two-shift operation, but demand has not risen as bold as hoped. Ford has now pulled the emergency brake and applied for short -time work from the Federal Employment Agency. "We continuously observe the market development," said a company spokesman. The demand for electric vehicles in Germany has dropped dramatically, which makes it necessary to adapt the production volumes in the Electric Vehicle Center in Cologne.
Ford works council calls for support
The situation is alarming! The decline in demand for electric cars in Europe, especially in Germany, is due to the sudden stop of the funding. Ford works council chief Benjamin Gruschka calls for a revival of the grants to advance e-mobility. The uncertainty among customers, due to discussions about the future of the combustion engines, means that many potential buyers hold back.
Around 2000 employees are affected by the short -time work. Ford will increase the short -time work allowance: While 60 percent of the unusual net fee is paid by law, Ford increases this amount by 20 percent. The future remains uncertain, because whether short -time work will be necessary again in the coming year is still in the stars. From January, the daily building rate will be reduced to 480 cars, these will also be manufactured in the two-shift operation.
