Refugee aid in Preetz: AWO project is facing the end!
Preet. The workers' welfare project (AWO), which has been responsible for the care of refugees since 2015, is facing the end. The contract between the city and the AWO expires at the end of the year, and there was no majority for continuation in the last committee meetings. The SPD urgently warned: "The work of the AWO cannot be upgraded in money!"
The administration proposed to rewrite refugee care from 2025, but all applications for the continuation of AWO support failed in the committee. Mayor Tim Brockmann (CDU) confirmed: "The current contract with the AWO therefore expires at the end of the year." The uncertainty about the future of refugee aid now floats through Preetz, while the volunteer coordinator Elena Streck is concerned: "The volunteers accompany the refugees very closely, the main office cannot do that."
Refugee care in Preetz received no majority in the committee
Niklas Teffner, head of the AWO integration center, expressed his concern about the uncertain future: "In no place in the district of Plön there is such a wide and professional offer in the integration accompaniment as in Preetz." The migration consultant Annette Zacharias emphasized the importance of an educational position in the town hall in order to meet the individual needs of the refugees. The question remains: How will the city of Preetz shape its refugee care in the future?
