Cyclists in Heidenau: Why do many feel unsafe?
Cyclists in Heidenau: Why do many feel unsafe?
In a dramatic rescue operation in Heidenau, cyclists ask themselves the crucial question: How safe do you feel in road traffic? The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) started a survey as part of the current bicycle climate test, which is still running until the end of November. Citizens are asked to submit their opinions, but so far only 25 cyclists have participated in the survey. This number is far too low to obtain usable results especially for Heidenau, as the Saxon ADFC managing director Konrad Krause states.
The bicycle climate test, which will be carried out this time for the eleventh time, aims to focus on the feeling of security of the cyclists and the quality of the cycle paths. In the past test, alarming 75 percent of Saxony surveyed stated that they felt unsafe when cycling. Krause emphasizes that this time the causes of the feeling of uncertainty should be explained, including questions such as sufficient distance when overtaking and general coexistence in road traffic.
bike paths under pressure
The cycling users in Heidenau also face another problem: far too narrow bike paths. It is often criticized that the city has too little cycle path offers, while the S172 becomes the central link of the traffic situation. The city can make demands, but itself has no sovereignty over the construction of new bike paths. To make matters worse, existing combined cycle and footpaths have been deleted because they were considered too narrow. The result? Cyclists have to shift their safety to the street - a dangerous solution that only tightens the situation.
The survey can be filled out online at www.bahrradklima-test.de -also in paper form. But it remains to be seen whether more Heidenauer and travelers will raise their voice to make a change!
