European youth meeting in Tallinn: Thousands avoid cold!

Tallinn, Estland - The 47th European youth meeting of Taizé is just around the corner! From December 28th to January 1st, around three thousand young people from over 40 countries in Tallinn, the picturesque capital of Estonia, are expected. This great gathering is under the motto of "sharing joy and light in another country", as Bishop Philippe Jean-Charles Jourdan von Tallinn put it. The event offers a platform for prayer, discussions and the exchange with the Christian communities on site. Numerous youth groups have also traveled from Austria, including the Catholic University Community Graz. The young people will make preparations to stay with host families and thus promote intercultural exchange. According to Taizé's invitation, Bishop Jourdan sees Christmas time as a time of hope and care that should help to spread peace in Estonia and all over the world, such as kathpress.at reported.

historical gathering of the youth

The upcoming meeting follows a long tradition of the Taizé youth meeting, which has started the year with Christian dialogue and exchange since 1978. The current prior of the Taizé community, Frère Matthew, announced at the last youth meeting in Ljubljana that the next big meeting will take place in Tallinn in 2024. As katholisch.de , the youngsters will also serve as inspiration on this occasion. The focus is on singing, prayer, workshops and mutual learning, which makes this event a special experience for all participants.

In the past, the Taizé youth meeting attracted thousands of young people, many of them traveled from countries such as Poland, Germany and Ukraine. The last meeting in Ljubljana, which lasts up to New Year's Eve, attracts a variety of participants and offers an opportunity to develop initiatives for peace and unity. The return to Tallinn is eagerly awaited to give the ecumenical movement another important impulse and to celebrate the spirit of the community.
