An exciting incident in Vienna: An e-scooter driver was checked by the police on Ignaz-Köck-Straße after ignoring a red light. However, the driver refused to stop. After a short persecution, the officers were finally able to arrest him, but the situation escalated. In addition, the police also employ the topic of e-scooters on duty. There are currently around 20 of these vehicles in Vienna, while a corresponding project is running in Salzburg. For legal reasons, however, many details on the areas of application and procurement are not announced. The police are faced with the challenge of ensuring the security of the civil servants, as it is unclear who is liable in cases of accidents or injuries. Reinhard Zimmermann, the head of the police union, demanded that e-scooters for hidden investigations. In Germany, however, the experience with police scooters is mostly positive, and their use could also increase in Austria, such as the KURIER . The experiences of the state police departments are currently evaluated to make future regulations for the use of these vehicles. A decree is in preparation, which clarifies that the e-scooters are used in the civilian area, which means that the police will not use any striking e-scooters in the street scene.
