Germany's 50 million euros: Help for a new Syria to Assad!
In the middle of a tense situation in Syria, Germany has promised additional aid of 50 million euros. This step was announced by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during an international conference in Riyadh, where leading Foreign Minister, including Syria's DE-FACTO Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani, met. According to the reports of Kleine Zeitung this support for essential things, emergency accommodation and medical care through the UN-Welnnung program and NGOs is used. Baerbock emphasized that this measure was crucial to improve the humanitarian situation and to promote the peaceful transition in Syria.
In addition, Baerbock makes suggestions for loosening certain sanctions, while the restrictive measures against the Assad clan and its accomplices should remain. These sanctions were imposed due to serious human rights violations that were committed during the civil war. Germany is committed to a "smart approach" in the European Union to quickly support the Syrian population so that enough foods are available in the supermarkets and the power supply is improved. The new Syrian leadership, which emerged from the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), urges to lift the western sanctions to accelerate the reconstruction, as from Nau reported.
political upheaval and international support
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2024, Syria has been in a phase of political change, which is, however, shaped by uncertainty. While Baerbock emphasized the need to support the population, she at the same time warned of the risk of a recess of the "Islamic State". The International Conference in Riad aims to develop strategies for the stabilization of Syria and the urgently needed reconstruction. Baerbock calls for a clear positioning of the new rulers in Syria to ensure security and stability in the region.
