Café Einhorn in Mülheim: An era ends after over a century!
The Café Einhorn in Mülheim has finally closed. The last working day was on Christmas Eve. The restaurant, which stays in family hands, is currently being cleared. Ancient pieces of furniture from a pharmacy used over 100 years old, which were used for the café, are to find a new owner. The pharmacy was opened in the Broich district in 1892 and existed over a century. After 12 years of vacancy, the pharmacy was converted into a café in 2011.
Brigitte Stoepke, the owner of the café, designed the restaurant with ancient pharmacists, among other things. The 70-year-old voluntarily gives up the café to enjoy her retirement. Some regular customers have already taken memories. The furniture could be sold to a pharmacist in Moers, while the shop will be used professionally by its son, a civil engineer, in the future.
peculiarities of the café
The former unicorn pharmacy was redesigned as part of a modernization, with the historical charm preserved. Walls, ceilings, floors and lines were redesigned, large pharmacists' cabinets and the counter were preserved. A modern refrigerator was housed in a former chest of drawers. The house was bought and renovated by Brigitte Stoepke's son and his wife in 2009. In April 2011, Brigitte Stoepke opened the Café Einhorn together with a friend and finally continued it alone.
The café was known for daily changing homemade cakes as well as hearty dishes such as soups, stews and tarte flambée. The breakfast card included "pharmacist creations" such as the tight pharmacist (bread, ham, fried egg) and the vital pharmacist (curd, cooked egg, vegetables). The menu reflected the history of the pharmacy opened in 1892 and the hot drink card offered an original tea selection and Italian coffee specialties.
In addition, homemade products were offered to take away, including wild garlic pesto, raspberry vinegar, rhubarb chutney, peppermint syrup and strawberry jam. Kulinarische-schnitzeljagd.de on the culinary aspects of the café.-transmitted by West-Ost-Medien
