Koblenz/Eckernförde (ots)
The research ship "Planet" has now started its journey to a NATO support in the Aegean. As part of the NATO-Aegyptensee activity (ASA), the ship will act together with the German Navy by early 2025. This mission is part of a long -term strategy to cope with current security policy challenges in the region.
The "Planet" is a state -of -the -art research platform for the military service department for ships and naval weapons, maritime technology and research (WTD 71) based in Eckernförde. It was specially designed to create comprehensive position images at sea, with leadership skills, medical emergency care and sufficient accommodation capacity on board. These properties make you ideal for the desired leadership role during use.
unique features and cooperation
The decision of the German Navy to include civil ships such as the “Planet” in military missions comes in response to the increasing global requirements despite stagnating number of sea -fashioned units. As part of this strategy, the research ship will operate under NATO flags and is active for the first time in such a context. The "planet" is occupied by both civil and military staff, with the military part taking over the essential tasks.
This operation shows the potential and flexibility that result from the close cooperation between civil and military structures of the Bundeswehr. With its infrastructure and technology, the "Planet" offers valuable support to ensure German and NATO-specific operations in crisis situations, which effectively use civil resources.
An important aspect of this NATO use is his continuous contribution to combating the refugee and migration crisis in the Aegean. The participants support the Greek and Turkish coast guard as well as the European border agency Frontex through sea area monitoring and information exchange in order to effectively observe and combat illegal tractor networks.
technical details on the "planet"
The research ship "Planet" is the most modern of its kind within NATO and is characterized by the so-called small-water plane area Twin-Hull (Swath) construction. This technique ensures that the buoyancy is significantly done by two floating bodies under water. The connecting elements connect the hub with the swimming bodies and only minimally contribute to the buoyancy, which leads to outstanding stability in sea and makes the ship particularly insensitive.
The inclusion of a so progressive ship underlines NATO's goal of developing future -oriented solutions that meet both civil and military requirements. Find out more on the official website of the Bundeswehr to learn more about the "planet" and your role in the NATO mission.
