In northern Germany, citizens are currently affected by extreme weather conditions that lead to numerous traffic accidents and storm flood warnings. The German Weather Service (DWD) has published a warning of a slight storm surge on the Baltic Sea coast, which should last until the morning. There is also a risk of smoothing in many northern German counties, which has already led to several accidents on the streets.
The Federal Office for Sea shipping and hydrography (BSH) expects water levels of up to 1.20 meters to the east of Rügen and 1.10 meters in the Bay of Lübeck. Therefore, the Greifswald barrier was closed as a precaution in order to protect the dike from possible overload. The city administration of Stralsund has recommended that vehicles to be removed from areas at risk of flooding to avoid damage.

There were also several accidents in Thuringia due to the smoothness.
The weather forecast for the weekend indicates a friendly change from the sun and clouds, with temperatures between -1 and 3 degrees. While the skiing and tobogganing facilities in the Harz are opened at the weekend, the cross-country trails are not yet groomed due to the current weather. In addition, the DWD warned of precipitation for the night of Sunday, which could occur as freezing rain and cause black ice.
At Frankfurt Airport, travelers are faced with possible flight cancellations and delays on Sunday. From 9 p.m. on Friday on Friday, several flights were already painted for black ice at the capital airport BER, and a total of 30 flights were affected there. Travelers are asked to plan more time for their journey and check their flights in advance.
