Regionalwerk Unterallgäu: Common energy future for 29 municipalities!

Unterallgäu, Deutschland - The district of Unterallgäu has taken a decisive step towards the energy transition with the foundation of the "Regionalwerk Unterallgäu GmbH". District Administrator Alex Eder described this milestone as a "early Christmas", since 29 municipalities are now working together to develop renewable energy projects in a targeted manner. Ten projects are already about to implement, including an open-air photovoltaic system on the A96 near Wiedergeltingen and an innovative Agri-Photovoltaic system in Niederrieden. These systems will not only generate electricity, but also make agricultural areas usable, as Managing Director Dietmar Schell explained ( Landratsamt Unterallgäu ).

The initiative application from the Free Voters in the district council and a support from the SPD FDP parliamentary group in 2022 laid the foundation for the establishment of the regional work. Financial support is also remarkable: the municipalities involved have provided a start -up capital of 1.3 million euros. The aim is to bundle energy production and realize projects under municipal management in order not only to reduce electricity costs, but also to reduce the dependency on external energy deliveries. District Administrator Eder emphasized the importance of municipal sponsorship in order to promote common good -oriented solutions. The district also provides up to 62,000 euros for the foundation ( New-facts ).

With future focus on storage solutions and wind power, the regional work would like to give a sustainable answer to the increasing energy requirement. The participation of all is expected to be at least 51 percent in municipal hands that the projects are implemented in the interests of the municipalities. Regionalwerk GmbH is therefore not only a step into the future of energy supply, but also a strong signal for the cooperation between the municipalities in Unterallgäu.
