Sokratis shines at the indoor tournament: legend and top scorer!

At the indoor tournament in Oldenburg, Socratis Papastatopoulos was recognized as the best player and scorer. The 36-year-old scored nine goals for the Allstar team and surprised the audience after his professional break, including Clemens Fritz, Managing Director of Werder Bremen. Fritz was amazed at the shooting strength of the former professional, who ended his career last spring. Sokratis, who previously played for FC Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, emphasized that he was fit, but would like to have more time for himself and his family.

Sokratis looks back on a long career in which he also played 61 competitive games for Werder Bremen under coach Thomas Schaaf between 2011 and 2013, which he describes as "like a father". Most recently, Sokratis was active at Betis Sevilla, where he played his last game on May 25, 2024 against Real Madrid. After his resignation, he now lives in Athens again and plans to take time for his future.

Werder Bremen triumphs again

SV Werder Bremen won the “Cup of public” at the indoor tournament in Oldenburg. This is the third victory in a row for the traditional team under coach Thomas Schaaf. The Werder legends showed an outstanding performance and gave the opponents little chance. In addition to Sokratis as a top scorer, Aaron Hunt, Felix Wiedwald, Mehmet Ekici, Felix Kroos, Angelos Charisteas, Clemens Fritz, Nelson Valdez, Philipp Bargfrede and Ailton also played for the team. Ivan Klasnic competed in the tournament for FC St. Pauli.

The organization of the tournament was taken over by the children of the late Werder legend Dieter Burdenski, which gave the event a special note. The tournament, which attracted numerous legends of SV Werder Bremen and the Bundesliga, became a great success and a worthy event for the venerable players and their fans.
