Riesstraße: Construction work on the wastewater canal will be delayed until November!

in Ritterhude is a construction site underway that concentrates on the Riesstrasse and is associated with unexpected delays. Initially, the repair on the dirty water channel would be completed on October 11th. However, it turned out that the work is more extensive than initially planned. The responsible company Hansewasser announced that the renovation measures will now continue until the expected date on October 25, 2023, with the possibility of completion by the end of the 44th calendar week, i.e. at the latest on November 3.

Initially, the schedule was based on an examination of the channel using camera technology. The interior of the canal was recorded by a robot. After the data collected, it was hoped that the damage caused by an indoor seal with the help of a resin -soaked fiber optic hose. This procedure had recently been successfully used in another point in Riesstrasse. But now it became clear that the originally planned trenchless renovation cannot be implemented.

Need of digging

Oliver Laderur, spokesman for Hansewasser press spokesman, said that the entire shaft structure had been significantly sagged and has already come into trouble. The experts then decided that a dug was inevitable to remedy the severity of the damage. Work began a week ago, where an area of four by five meters was excavated around the Gully. The use of plug-in filters enables the water to suck out the water without choosing an elaborate deep well solution that would have taken more time.

The work is progressing and the area will be excavated to a depth of 5.5 meters. The construction work is currently located at about four meters. If there is a need to absorb the water from the pit, specially designed filters come into play that create a selective negative pressure to efficiently dissipate the water.

renovation of the shaft and planning of the expansion

The new components will arrive on Monday and the renovation of the shaft will begin on Tuesday. Ladeur emphasizes that this measure is complex and brings special challenges, especially due to the need for sand flush. The well -thought -out planning stipulates that the existing and damaged shaft cannot simply stay in the ground, but has to be replaced completely.

As soon as the new shaft is built, the transitions to the channel follow. In the meantime, the dirty water is pumped over because it is essential for hygiene and the functionality of the system that it continues to flow. Lader notes that no compromises can be made during dirty water, even if it is necessary to temporarily switch off the drinking water supply.

Another interesting statement concerns the density of the channel at the damaged area: it was found that the channel in this region is tight. Therefore, the original idea of repairing the damage using the fiber optic hose was rejected. Nevertheless, there is the possibility that leakage that could arise from sand entry will occur in the future. Hansewasser plans to develop a comprehensive renovation concept for the entire length of the channel in Riesstrasse. However, Oliver Laderur estimates that the implementation of this large measure is expected to take a period of two years.

Overall, the progress and challenges in the current renovation not only illustrate the need for careful planning in the infrastructure sector, but also the complexity of construction work in urban surroundings. It remains to be seen which further knowledge can be obtained from this situation and how the situation will develop in the coming weeks.
