Talentchmiede TuS Huchting: Vlada fights for new gym!

A race against time! The gymnastics department of TuS Huchting faces a huge challenge: the old hall on the Amersfoorte Strasse, a relic from the 70s, fights against mold and dilapidated infrastructure. The hall is not only poorly ventilated, but also the heating regularly fails in winter. The gymnasts have to deal with cold showers and defective toilets. A modern training? None! While the talented Vladyslava Ozinkovska, only twelve years old and already active in the 3rd Bundesliga, trains in a hall with inadequate conditions, everyone hopes for a new building.

The construction of a new gym is urgently necessary, but the permits are long in coming. Construction will start in spring 2024, but the Society for Immobilien Bremen (IB) is reserved and speaks of delays in the building application procedure. "The design pad will be completed promptly," it says. But the patience of the gymnasts and trainer Katharina Kort is put to the test. "We urgently need a schnitzel pit for safe training," emphasizes Kort, while the girls have to go to Buchholz regularly to find adequate training conditions.

a ray of hope in darkness

The hope of a new hall remains! The Senate has already approved seven million euros to create a new training location on Oberwarander Strasse. But the question remains: does the old hall last for so long? "It will be great when we finally have a lighthouse in the district," says TuS managing director Heike Kretschmann. The gymnastics department has around 140 active gymnasts and could attract even more talents with better conditions. The discussion about the need for a new training location has been going on for over a decade, especially since the super talent Karina Schönmaier rose to the national team and the inadequate training conditions became public. Now it means: wait and hope that the new hall will soon be a reality!
