Helpers from Weser-Ems bring 647 aid packages to Bistritz!

In an impressive aid campaign, the Johanniter in Weser-Ems collected a total of 647 packages with vital, durable foods for needy people in Romania and Ukraine. The packages were made available in a central warehouse in Wunstorf on December 21, 2023 and then on the way on the 2nd Christmas Day by a convoy, which laid 3,800 kilometers in five days, as the Kreiszeitung Wesermarsch reported. The emergency services, including 15 volunteers, handed over the packages to the intermediate station in Bistritz, Romania.

The exact number of packages with that remained unclear, since Christiane Willuweit, project manager of the Johanniter in Weser-Ems, said that "our convoy takes what fits." Surplus packages will be delivered in the coming weeks or distributed to the needy in Germany via cooperations with tables. In total, more than 5,300 parcels in Lower Saxony and Bremen were collected, which impressively underlines the large scope of the campaign.

commitment of the volunteers

The local association Garrel contributed significantly to this campaign with 325 auxiliary packages, including 278 self -packed. Many schools, markets and companies also took part in supporting the aid campaign. Hannes Wendler, a member of the State Executive of the Johanniter, praised the commitment of the volunteers and the generous donations of the supporters. The Johanniter Christmas truck is already planning another aid campaign for 2025, and donations can be provided all year round, such as the Johanniter executed.
