Open Sundays 2025: Dates in Remscheid have been determined!

A total of four open Sundays in Remscheid are planned for 2025, where shops can open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. This regulation is anchored as part of the North Rhine-Westphalia Late Opening Act, which was issued in 2006 and modified in 2018. According to the provisions, sales outlets may open in the public interest at a maximum of eight, which are not directly successful in succession.

Sundays open to the sales are only permitted if they are connected to events that attract more people than the mere opening of the business. The dates for the open Sundays in Remscheid 2025 are as follows:

  • 6. July: First Sunday, Sunday, at the same time as the summer festival on the old market in Lennep.
  • 28. September: Last Sunday in September, combined with the autumn and farmers' market in Lüttringhausen.
  • 30. November: on the 1st Advent, as part of the training market "Our jobs in Remscheid" in the Allee Center.
  • 14. December: on the 3rd Advent, during the Lenneper Christmas meeting in the historic old town.

Legal basis for shop opening times

The Late Opening Act (Lög NRW) was issued on November 16, 2006 to regulate general shop opening times and protect the Sunday and holiday rest. The scope of this law includes the opening of sales outlets and the commercial offering of goods outside of sales outlets. Sales offices include shops, pharmacies and petrol stations.

The statutory holidays are also defined. On working days, sales outlets may be open without a time limit. However, there are special regulations for Sundays and public holidays: On these days, sales outlets may be open under certain conditions, usually from 1 p.m., a maximum of eight Sundays or public holidays a year.

In addition, sales outlets in tourist areas may be open for up to eight hours on up to 40 Sundays or public holidays. Pharmacies can hand in medicines on Sundays and public holidays, while petrol stations may remain open all day. Sales offices at airports and passenger stations are also permitted for travel needs.

The supervision of compliance with these legal provisions is the responsibility of the local regulatory authorities, which can impose up to 15,000 euros in violations, as reported RGA.de queried.
