New bollard system for old town: digitally instead of cumbersome!

In the old town of Salzburg, a new digital system for access to the bollards on Kajetnerplatz is tested. Up to 800 vehicles use the bollards every day, which have so far been reduced through cumbersome remote control. This often led to abuse because the remote controls were passed on without authorization. According to the developer of the project, Christian Morgner, a digital vignette is now to bring the solution. "We built the bollards to keep illegal traffic out of the old town," said Morgner. A test run with the new vignette technology is imminent to check the efficiency of the system and improve control.

digital vignettes replace remote controls

During the test, the municipal fleet is first equipped with these new vignettes. These are firmly connected to the vehicle and are only valid for the bollard system. Morgner explains: "This is a vignette for the windshield. If I scrape it down, it doesn't work anymore." If the system prove itself, the previous 3,500 remote controls could be replaced by these new data vignettes. The city administration emphasizes that this will not only increase comfort, but also more effectively against abuse by unauthorized access to the old town.
