An exciting new chapter for the city of Salzburg begins with the planned expansion of the Iuvavum Archaeology Museum, which is intended to catapult the fascinating Roman history of the region into the modern age. The extensions, which at the same time create a barrier -free connection to the cathedral excavation museum, were designed by the Salzburg architecture firm Eidos and Haslauer & Rodriguez Paraja ZT GmbH. The ambitious project comprises three essential parts: a new visitor center including a museum shop as well as the air -conditioned residence gallery and the new archaeological museum, which is to be housed in the historical cellar vaults of the residence. While the construction period, which begins in 2026 and is scheduled to complete in 2028, the cathedral quarters will be temporarily closed, and the magnificent rooms of the residence will not be accessible. The price for these comprehensive measures amounts to 32.66 million euros, whereby the state of Salzburg takes over a large part of 31.16 million euros, while the city adds 1.5 million euros, as the director of the cathedral quarters, Andrea Stockhammer, explained.

The architects Bernd Haslauer and Roberto Rodriguez Paraja, who stand behind the Haslauer & Rodriguez Paraja office, are known for their creative approach. This is based on the philosophy that every project opens up a new way to explore space, light and material, which it makes of the mere building of a structure, as well as Architizer .
