Munich rolls ahead: New bike paths make the city more bike -friendly!
Munich intensifies the expansion of its cycling infrastructure in order to implement the “Radscheid” and “Altstadt-Radlring” citizens' request. In the coming year 2025 there will be several projects to improve cycling and footpaths, which should also increase the security standards. This information was published in a report by T-Online
The redesign of the Lindwurmstrasse begins in autumn 2025 and includes wider cycle and sidewalks between Sendlinger-Tor-Platz and Goetheplatz. At the same time, new charging and delivery zones for commercial transport are being set up. Other projects include measures on Rheinstraße, Giesinger Berg, Boschetsrieder Straße and Domagkstraße, which are expected to start in mid -2025.
planned changes in the city center
In addition, the city plans to create a wide walk and bike paths on Wolfratshauser Straße, between Josephinenstraße and Siemensallee, as well as on Carl-Wery-Straße. The heavy-reiter-road is also redesigned from Leonrodplatz to the Emma-Ihrer-Straße, whereby new charging and delivery zones are also being set up here.
The completion of the first section of the rapid rapid connection between Lenbachplatz and the place of the victims of National Socialism should be emphasized. This includes cycle paths that have a width of 2.80 meters, as well as a redesigned intersection on Oskar-von-Miller-Ring/Brienner Straße, the new "Platanenplatz" with more security and green spaces. The new "Radl-Highway" will extend over a total of around 23 kilometers from Munich to Garching and Unterschleißheim and represents an environmentally friendly alternative to car and train.
The old town cycling, an important demand from the Munich Radescheid, will create a continuous and safe bicycle lane around the old town. This includes important places and streets such as Karlsplatz (Stachus), Odeonsplatz and Isartorplatz, as can be read on the website of the Radscheids Munich ( Radtscheid Munich ). The aim is to equip the cycle paths with a usable control width of 2.80 meters per direction of travel and at the same time plan lateral safety distances in order to prevent inadmissible driving and hold by motor vehicles.
With these changes, the city of Munich not only strives for an improvement in driving conditions for cyclists, but also wants to reduce air pollution and noise and promote the health of citizens. In the future, the old town cycling bike will represent the central hub for the planned cycling speeds into the surrounding area and combine the main traffic axes in the Munich city center. The city council took over the demands of the citizens' request in December 2019.
