Munich fights against heat: 150 trees need years of planning!

In Munich, the city plans to plant 150 new trees in the old town in order to combat the increase in temperatures through climate change. This initiative is part of a comprehensive project that was already decided in April. The intention behind it is clear: more green areas should provide shade and cooler air and thus improve the quality of life in the city center.

However, it turns out that it could take years until the first tree planting. The reason for this lies in the complex bureaucratic processes that are necessary for such a project. The city administration must first plan all the Details, which requires an in -depth examination. According to information from the construction department, this phase could take up to two years. This means that the actual plantings could begin in 2026 at the earliest.

The hurdles of the tree project

The construction department under the direction of Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer (Greens) said that due to the financial size of the order, a Europe-wide award procedure was necessary for the commissioning of planning offices. This procedure is currently being prepared with the allocation of an order to a planning office planned for early 2025. Thereafter, the planners must create preliminary planning that includes a coordination with various facilities such as monument protection and "CityPartner". The exact locations at which the trees are to be planted are roughly set on a rough extent, but the exact places have not yet been determined. For example, the Neuhauser and Kaufingerstraße, the Diener- und Weinstraße and Sendlinger Straße are identified as possible locations, but the detailed planning is still pending.

It is not until autumn 2026 that the city council is to be decided on the concept and the further procedure. A spokesman for the building department noted that fixed information on the implementation can only be given after this decision, which brings with it.

reactions to the delays

The long waiting time encounters massive criticism. Christian Hierneis, the chairman of the Bund Naturschutz in Munich, is frustrated with the slow implementation. "If you really wanted, it all could go much faster," he said. It is clear to him that it is time to act, especially in view of the heat problem in summer, which is tightened by the concrete desert in the city center.

The city councils are also dissatisfied. Tobias Ruff from the ÖDP describes the two -year planning period as "unbelievable". He advocates that the construction department itself becomes active and should start with the plantings because the necessary plans already exist. "With this delay, the legislative period will be over before green-red has only planted one tree," is sure.

The situation raises questions about the efficiency of the city administration and illustrates the challenges in urban planning, especially with regard to environmentally friendly measures. The urge for faster action in view of climate change is contrasting to the slow bureaucratic processes, which often decide on measures that seem easy. Green projects are not only important for the environment, they also have an impact on the quality of life of the citizens.

The several years of delay could restrict the possibilities of the city to react quickly to the requirements of urban mobility and the well -being of citizens. How the city overcomes these obstacles and when the implementation will finally be started remains to be seen, as www.tz.de reports .
