The meaning of the Krampus and the Perchten
The Krampus, a eerie figure, has the task of exhorting the naughty children, while the Perchten, which occur between December 21 and January 6, are supposed to pass the winter demons. While the beautifully perched light and fertility symbolize, the Schiachperchten have the task of driving evil away. These traditions are deeply rooted in alpine culture and are very popular even in modern times. The variety of masks and the lively sounds of the clamps create a unique atmosphere that captivates young and old alike.
In the old town of Salzburg, the Krampus run was another fascinating facet of the traditional pre -Christmas season, which brings people together and conveys a feeling of community. This evening, visitors experienced an unforgettable spectacle that impressively brought about the cultural and the social meaning of the old traditions.
