End of an era: Rarity room in Wolfratshausen closes after 45 years
In Wolfratshausen, an era will come to an end. After 45 years, the rarity room on the Obermarkt closes its doors. The couple Ingrid and Fritz Schnaller, who have been doing business since its foundation, have announced that they will no longer continue after this year. The clearance sale has already started, and by the end of the year all 7,000 items that have been on the shelves are to be sold.
"It is time to break new ground. After 45 years, for us in the old town of Wolfratshaus, the end of the year ends," says Ingrid Schnaller. The decision to close the traditional business was not easy, but the Schnallers felt ready to start a new phase of life. The rarity room, which was founded by Fritz Schnaller in 1979, was originally launched out of his passion for antiques.
a trip through history
The entry into the world of antique furniture started very modest for Fritz Schnaller. With only 500 objects, he opened the business and was unsure whether it would be successful at all. In September 1979 he found the small shop in a former heating chamber in the old town and rented for 400 marks. But success was not long in coming; Shortly before Christmas the shop was almost empty.
The rarity room was not only a point of sale, but also a place of knowledge. Ingrid Schnaller, who has headed business alone for 13 years, emphasizes that every article tells its own history in the shop. "If you are ready to deal with the old things, you can acquire a lot of knowledge," explains the 51-year-old. The spouses of the Schnallers was strongly linked to their business, and they enjoyed sharing their knowledge of antiques with interested customers.
Another loss for the old town
With the upcoming end of the rarity room, this is already the third traditional company that will close in the old town in Wolfratshaus. Previously, the "Michlbauer" and the goldsmith of Fritz Koch closed their doors. If no successor is found for the rarity room, the traditional shop will finally close at the end of the year.
"At some point it is time to focus on things that have not to do with work," explains Fritz Schnaller, who was also active as a former SPD city council. The closure hits many of the loyal customers of the Schnallers who will miss the shop and the special atmosphere. "We close with a laughing and a crying eye," says Ingrid Schnaller, as they are looking forward to more time with their grandchildren and trips, but will also miss the passion for antiques.
Despite the closure of the rarity room, the Schnallers of their home in Wolfratshausen will remain loyal. "We like it here, we are rooted here and have an intensive connection to Wolfratshausen." They plan to actively get involved in your community in the future, even if the rarity room was an important part of your life. The closure, which represents a significant incision for the two, will also shape the history of the Wolfratshaus old town.
