150 years of donation ships: a tradition that saves life!

Delmenhorst, Deutschland - In 2025, the donation ships of the German Society for Rescue Shipwrecker (DGZRS) celebrate their 150th anniversary. These small, handy boats, which are 32 cm long, 10 cm wide and 8 cm high, are used in various facilities such as pubs, medical practices and museums to collect donations. The DGZRS is based in Bremen and was founded in 1865. The income from the donation boats finance the operation of 60 rescue ships, which are used at 55 rescue stations along 3660 km of North and Baltic Sea coast. The idea of ​​increasing at small donations was launched in 1875 by Arwed Emminghaus, a journalist and economist. In the first year, 1240 donation boats were distributed in Germany, and over 67,000 have been produced to date. There are currently around 13,000 boats.
