Broadband expansion in the district of Meißen: progress and challenges!

Landkreis Meißen is in the spotlight of the digital revolution! In the technical committee of the district council, an exciting message was recently presented, which the members met with optimism. The broadband expansion is picking up speed, and the numbers speak for themselves: More and more households and companies in the district are given access to fast internet, a real ray of hope in digital darkness!

Thanks to the white spots of the federal and free state, the federal and Free State is specifically based on the massive undersupply of the Internet. In autumn 2022, 3,090 connection points were identified, and the cooperation with Saxon Energy and Deutsche Telekom has already borne fruit. Of the nine projects launched, 9.95 million euros have already flowed into the expansion, with the federal government 60% and the Free State of Saxony covering 30% of the costs. The district itself only bears 10% - a real profit for the region!

But there are also challenges: With around 8,000 address points, there is an economic gap that arises from long ways and a small number of users. The funding has been requested, but the decision is still pending. While the district acts closed, the municipalities of Klipphausen and Röderaue have taken their own ways and work separately with Vodafone on broadband connection.
