The first electricity plant templins: a search for traces in pictures!
In the Uckermark region, a current exploration of the Uckermark Kurier brings light into the dark of the past. The first Templin electricity plant, which was located at Kantstraße 1, is illuminated in the “Historical Villue Castle” series. The image of the historical work came from the estate of Templiner Elfriede Sydow and ensures nostalgic memory among the locals.
The history of the electricity plant goes deep into the past because it was put into operation on September 1, 1896. Built by the Berlin company Hübsch, Hostjes and Co., it ensured the city's first electrical lighting. It is particularly noteworthy that the company was taken over by the city of Templin in 1901 and that there were electric street lamps for the first time that day. According to the chronicle "Templin - a Märkische City in Change in History", the connection to the overland headquarters was completed in 1910.
memories of the beginnings of the power supply
The memories of the early times of the power supply in Templin are alive in the stories of citizens who were in direct contact with the work. Sigrid Finck, a Templiner, tells of her father, who started training in the electricity work in 1945 and worked there until his retirement. "I can remember how I picked him up from work as a child and heard the loud hum of the transformers, which seemed a little scary at the time," she reports. Her father gave her many stories about the difficult times after the war when the city was shaped by destruction.
After the Second World War, the municipal municipal utilities Templin took responsibility to improve the situation. The power supply in hospitals and the old waterworks was first prioritized. "The electricity came from the Märkische Elderzitätswerks from Eberswalde, and the main supply took place from Kantstraße," explains Sigrid Finck. She described these anecdotes and more in an article for the Templin home calendar 2012.
The challenges of energy supply
The challenges of the old energy supply also employs other residents. Manfred Paesler reports on the energy supply during the GDR period and the responsible handling of the employees. "The men often had to move out in wind and weather to fix damage to the overhead lines," he recalls. The original building was never fully preserved, but part of the complex is used today for an ophthalmologist's office.
Jürgen Lemke also has a picture of the old work and remembers that there was a fire at work towards the end of the Second World War. The talks and stories of the Templiner about the electricity work do not end, and names like Ingrid Fritz, Rolf Prütz and many others who took part in the puzzle question of the Uckermark Kurier show that the memories remain alive.
For those who want to learn more about the exciting development of the power supply in Templin, the details in the chronicle of Bärbel Makowitz, Eitel Knitter and Martin Kunze can be found. The older citizens associated with the work contribute to a valuable historical awareness of the present and the future of the city of Templin. Her experiences and stories are not only a look back, but also part of the collective memory of this charming city.
