Scholz as a top candidate: SPD in Brandenburg before a decisive choice!

Potsdam, Deutschland - In Brandenburg, the signs are on the election campaign: Chancellor Olaf Scholz is nominated as the top candidate of the SPD for the upcoming federal election. At a state representative assembly in Potsdam, which took place on Saturday (December 14th), the delegates coordinate on the state list at which Scholz is supposed to compete as a direct candidate in his constituency. He has already recommended approval for the direct mandate with 93.2 percent after winning the constituency against the Greens politician Annalena Baerbock in 2021, as merkur reported.

The surveys, however, show a cloudy picture for Scholz and the SPD. According to the Brandenburg trend of the opinion research institute Infratest Dimap, for whom over 1,183 eligible voters were interviewed between December 4 and 7, only 22 percent of the Scholz surveyed as chancellor candidates favor. Shocking: 72 percent consider him unsuitable. This situation is dramatic due to the fact that the AfD would start with 30 percent as the strongest force in Brandenburg, followed by the CDU with 21 percent and the SPD with only 19 percent, which is a drastic decline compared to the last election, according to the Tagesspiegel .

The SPD puts the result in a precarious location because it was still the strongest force in the 2021 Bundestag election. The survey also confirms the shrinking support for Scholz, especially among the followers of the CDU and AfD, which mostly reject it. These trends show that confidence in the SPD and its candidate for chancellor could fluctuate and the upcoming election campaigns could become decisive, since the AfD's protection of the constitution as a right -wing extremist suspicion is attributing a particularly critical role.
