Boat thieves hit: Motor storm in the resting season!
The water protection police found two thefts of outboard engines on a climbing system in a current criminal investigation. Unknown perpetrators apparently got rid of several boats to violently steal the engines on two vehicles. When the fraudsters also had the third boat in sight, a technical breakdown led to the boat ran full of water and ultimately sank.
The police have already received the relevant ads and took care of the securing of traces. The owners of the affected boats were informed. Interestingly, the sunken boat does not constitute a direct danger to shipping and is recovered independently by the owner. This incident has drawn the attention of the water protection police to a number of important security measures that should consider boaters.
Important tips for boat owners
In view of the fact that the boats now, since the water sports season comes to an end, are less frequented, the water protection police recommend a number of measures to prevent theft:
- bot owners should organize regular control courses with their dock neighbors. Irregular times for these controls increase the effectiveness and make thieves more difficult to act unnoticed.
- If the boats are transferred to a winter camp, it is advisable to engravate the engines. Although this measure is not absolute protection against theft, thieves can deter, since the engine individual number is permanently preserved and thus traceability to the owner is guaranteed. An appointment for the engraving can be arranged directly to the water protection police on 0331/9688424, which is responsible for the districts of Potsdam-Mittelmark, Havelland and Teltow-Fläming as well as the cities of Brandenburg an der Havel and Potsdam.
- Another effective safety measure is the installation of a GPS tracker at a non-visible location of the engine, for example under the hood. These small devices are useful because you can send notifications on a mobile phone if the location of the engine changes. Typically, the trackers have a battery life of about a year.
These preventive measures are crucial to prevent thefts in the future and increase the safety of the boats. The water protection police ask all boat owners to be vigilant and take measures to protect their property. The precautionary measures will not only increase the security of the boats, but also reduce the risk of potential thieves. Further information can be found on cityreport.pnr24-online.de can be read.
