Punks and memories: Spreepark exhibition opened in the egg house

Plänterwald, Berlin, Deutschland - The exhibition "Last pleasure" in the egg house of the Spreepark Berlin is a fascinating review of the glorious past of the former cultural park Plänterwald. Here, where the only amusement park of the GDR opened its gates, memories come alive that make the heart beat faster. "Welcome to Happiness" is emblazoned at the entrance, and historical photos from the eventful past immediately captivate visitors. The pictures show happy people on carousels and roller coasters, while a particularly impressive photo of the World Festival of Youth in 1973 captured the nostalgic mood perfectly.

a place of freedom and joy

The exhibition addresses the Spreepark as a place that served as a stage for state propaganda and offered real space for joy and freedom. Katja Aßmann, the artistic director of Spree Park Art Space, emphasizes the importance of the personal memories that visitors bring. An over 80-minute listening of Anne Waak accompanies the exhibition and leads the guests through the various sections: "Welcome to Happiness", "The Park as a stage" and "behind the scenes". The black and white photos of Christiane Eisler, who held punks in the Plänterwald in the 1980s, are particularly impressive-a sign of freedom that could be experienced in this special place.

The exhibition, which was opened on November 10 and can be seen until February 23, 2025, also shows the transformation of the park after the turn. The Spreepark was closed in 2001 and turned into a "Lost Place" that was recaptured by nature. Visitors can observe the construction work on the reopening of the park, which were originally planned for Easter 2025, but have now been postponed to 2026. Katja Aßmann sees the exhibition as a perfect moment to remember the past before the Spreepark enters a new era of pleasure.
