Altdöbern, Deutschland - A fire of a devastating extent completely destroyed the legendary “Kultberg” cultural center in Altdöbern (Oberspreewald-Lausitz) on Wednesday night. What was once a meeting point for numerous concert goers and those interested in culture is now on fire! Even in GDR times, the former shooting house with its blues concerts attracted hundreds of fans. For the past five years, the house has experienced a renaissance thanks to a young family that revived it as a cultural place.

The alarmed firefighters were called to the fire site on Wednesday evening when the fire was already in full swing. "When we arrived at the scene, the hall of the cultural center was already completely on fire," said Altdöbern's police chief Robert Dept.. In this fire inferno, the entire roof construction burned down without the brave emergency personnel being able to give an insight into the inside. In addition, the adjoining outbuilding where the youth club was located was completely destroyed. 46 firefighters were involved in the extinguishing work, which luckily could protect the neighboring house. According to reports, there were no injuries, but the cause of the fire remains a big mystery.
