In the Museum Schloss und Fortress Senftenberg, a fascinating view of the colorful world of children's rooms of the GDR opens on October 31, 2024! The new special exhibition "The children's room in the GDR" promises a nostalgic experience that makes the hearts of young and old beat faster. From mole to Sandmann to Pittiplatsch-the heroes of childhood arouse memories, while visitors immerse themselves in the everyday world of the small GDR residents. In the 1960s, 70s and 80s, these sites of the game, learning and imagination were characterized by unique toys and common memories.

"It is both the room in which the children, undisturbed by the parents, can play and romp as well as a job to do homework," explains scientist Laura Rommel. The exhibition highlights the development of the children's room since the 1970s when it began to be a self -image of the apartment. Visitors can discover extraordinary and classic toys such as the famous "Froebel vehicles" and an edition of the "Little Hobbit" printed in the GDR in 1971. The formative educational institutions such as kindergarten and school also find their place in this memory exhibition.

Little researchers can look forward to exciting hands -on stations where they are puzzling, designing and exploring the hidden objects. In addition, the accompanying program offers the opportunity to create your own comics or to make bumbles according to original templates. A special highlight awaits visitors with the "Mutti clears" experience on December 13, 2024, in which the cleanup of dust fronds and toy box is brought to life. The exhibition can be visited in the large castle hall over the winter time until March 2, 2025 before it takes a short conversion break and continued in the west wing from April 2025 to May 2026.
