Together together: Seniors explore the beauties of Osls!

Großräschener See, Deutschland - A spectacular hiking day for the seniors in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district! In order to make this traditional event even more unforgettable, the district commissioner for senior citizens' work invited its 41 participants to the breathtaking nature around Lake Großräschen. In bright sun and pleasant temperatures, the seniors started their tour, which led through picturesque vineyards and past the pier of the lake.

The excitement was noticeable when the participants took a seat in the "sea snake" - a great alternative for senior citizens restricted mobility. OSL district administrator Siegurd Heinze surprised all pocket format with warm words and refreshing cold drinks before going to the historic Dörrwalder mill. There the hikers strengthened themselves at a tasty lunch and explored the impressive mill. On the way back on the impressive Ilse Canal and the memorial stone Anna-Mathilde there were other highlights that made the day an unforgettable experience.

The hiking days, an integral part of the annual calendar since 1999, attract numerous seniors every year, despite the pandeme -related interruptions in 2020 and 2021. These popular excursions promote the exchange and community among older citizens. The senior representative Bettina Lehmann said: "We are pleased that despite the high temperatures, participants from almost all municipalities have come together to discover our region."

With around 32,348 people over 65 who live in the district, OSL represents an important and committed community. The district senior council emphasizes the interests of this group and organizes regular events - a sign of the active participation of older citizens in society. Every day of hiking is not just about movement, but also about making social contacts and sharing valuable experiences. A nice side effect that makes this day unforgettable!
