Brandenburg's police before the collapse: Number of officials drops dramatically!
Brandenburg. Alarming messages from Brandenburg! The police are faced with a dramatic lack of personnel that could endanger the security of citizens. Despite all promises and announcements, the number of police officers will probably decrease in the coming year to less than 8,000. The police union (GdP) raises the alarm and blames the high number of retirement because the BabyBoomer generation is retired.
The police currently have 8253 civil servants, according to the Interior Ministry on October 1, 2024. However, 346 of them will retire next year. The GdP also points out that many officials work part -time, terminate or fail due to illness. The average absenteeism amounts to alarming 35 days a year! While the GdP classifies the situation as critical, the CDU-led Interior Ministry emphasizes that sinking in personnel strength to under 8000 civil servants is not to be feared.
Union of the police (GDP) Deficit complains about the personnel
The GdP calls for an appropriate police presence of at least 9,000 civil servants and criticizes the failures of politics in recent decades. "We lack the generation of the initial and mid-forties," says Anita Kirsten, the state chairman of the GdP. The police college in Oranienburg could be a solution, but it is already fully busy and can only train 400 candidates. An extension is urgently needed to secure the offspring!
The situation is not only tense in Brandenburg. The federal police also fight with a problem with young talent and cannot fill all training positions. Lars Wendland from the GdP reports on a dropout rate of up to 30 percent during the training. Time is pushing and the security of the citizens is at stake!
